The Thomas B. Norton Public Library was recognized at the Public Library Division breakfast at the Alabama Library Association Conference on April 26th as being this year’s only statewide recipient of  a Gold Star Standards award.

This evening, at the Gulf Shores City Council meeting at 5:00 pm, the library will be officially honored for this award by the Mayor and City Council members.  The public is invited to attend to join us in celebrating this extraordinary achievement.

Here’s an article that was published on al.com about the recognition:

National Library Week is also Fine Forgiveness Week at Baldwin County Libraries

Portia from the Merchant of Venice

“The quality of mercy is not strain’d…”  So says Portia in “The Merchant of Venice” and the libraries of Baldwin County agree. To celebrate National Library Week, we are forgiving all fines!

Return your overdue books, dvds, audio books or any other library owned material to any Baldwin County library during the week of April 8 through April 14 and mercy will be shown.   Check your bookshelves, kid’s rooms, couch cushions and under the front seat for stray or lost items.  We’ll even erase long overdue fines if the missing item is returned.  Return them in person or via bookdrop and your slate will be wiped clean.

“The Baldwin County Libraries are committed to keeping overdue fines low,” said Liz Reed, director of the Baldwin County Library Cooperative.  “We can do this only if our patrons return any overdue library material.  We are also determined to continue offering popular DVDs at no charge to the patron, but only if they are returned by the due date.”

Christian Fiction Author Contressa Olszewski to visit T. B. Norton Library in April

The acclaimed Christian Fiction writer,  Contressa Olszewski, author of Prelude to Grace, will visit the Thomas B. Norton Public Library on April 11th at 10:30 am to talk about her books and writing.

Please call 251.968.1176 and ask for Deanne for more details.

From Prelude to Grace:

“Making mistakes is all part of human nature. So why is it so hard to say the three words that can make it all better? The hardest words to utter can sometimes be ‘I was wrong.’ But as part of a fallen human nature, it is to be expected that at some time or another we will have to admit fault and ask for grace. Thankfully for all humans, there is a loving God who willingly forgives us for all that we do. The key to surviving a humbling experience is examining our actions and words, and learning not to be afraid of surrendering our pride. To live a humble life, as God commands, isn’t always easy. Everyone needs little reminders of their dependence on grace. Now, in a concise and easy to use seven-day devotional, Contressa Olszewski outlines the process of grace, all the way from repentance to forgiveness, and provides advice and ideas for practical application. Open your heart and start to actively participate in your own Prelude to Grace.”
